LA Golf shafts plans on making some waves in the golf shaft industry. After acquiring the assets, patents and inventory of Matrix earlier in 2018, the company has ramped up a limited (in my view) line of shafts and introduced them exclusively to the clubfitting market. We are excited to see the efforts of John Oldenburg, Chief Product Officer at LA Golf Shafts (LA Golf Partners to be exact). Formerly with ALDILA, John brings a wealth of knowledge about shaft design and shaft materials. Read more about their focus in this MyGolfSpy article.
For those of you that used Matrix shafts in the past, the new models have been pared to one line of Reign, a re-make of the Matrix M, Q and X Tie series, the ALTUS Hybrids, and the TPHD woods. The DEUS line is no longer available. This is actually a pretty good starting point in my opinion as LAGP is sticking to the more premium models. There will be a new "players" line that will be priced between the TPHD and the TIE line which will be released Spring 2019.
Basically, the lineup from LAGP will be as follows:
TPHDE Wood shafts 50, 60, 70 gram - $500 Super Premium shaft - low launch, low spin.
TIE Series Wood shafts (White, Red, Black) 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 gram - $250 Premium Shaft - various models in low, mid and mid-high launch and spin.
ALTUS Hybrid (White, Red, Black) 65, 85, 105 grams - $130 - various models from low, mid and mid-high launch and spin
ALTUS Irons (White, Red, Black) 65, 85 and 105 gram - $80 - various models from low, mid and mid-high launch and spin.
REIGN Wood Shafts - 40, 50, 60, 70 gram - $115 mid-high launch and mid-high spin.
REIGN Hybrid Shafts - 60, 80 gram - $90 mid to mid-high launch and spin.
REIGN Iron Shafts - 40, 50, 60, 70 gram - $65 high to mid-high launch and spin.
We have started the testing of the new shafts in our profiling system and so far they look great. Will keep you posted with updates.
